Al eeuwenlang tellen dansers hun stappen tot 4, 6 of 8. Tegenwoordig gebeurt dat vaak op nog complexere manieren. Maar wat als dansers tellen tot oneindig? Oneindigheid als concept brengt ons in contact met wat er buiten onszelf bestaat. Het podium is een plek die deze transcendentie mogelijk kan maken. Want hoewel lichamen eindig lijken, gaat beweging vooral om potentieel.

Voor infini nemen Boris Charmatz en vijf dansers de alomtegenwoordigheid van cijfers als vertrekpunt. ‘Ik heb altijd een hekel gehad aan tellen tijdens het dansen. Ik laat mijn geest liever wegdwalen. In dit stuk tellen, spreken en zingen we om te dansen, maar vooral: om nog beter kunnen dwalen.’ In een wereld die meer en meer slaaf is van algoritmes, biedt Charmatz een moment van oneindigheid.

• Danser en choreograaf Boris Charmatz is een van de sleutelfiguren van de hedendaagse dans in Frankrijk, maar ook in ons land. In 2009 nam hij de leiding over van het Centre chorégraphique national in Rennes, en doopte het om tot Musée de la danse. Sinds À-bras-le-corps in 1998, is hij regelmatig te gast in het Kaaitheater. Voorstellingen als Aatt enen tionon, Flip Book en – tijdens Performatik13 – brouillon lieten grote indruk na.
