Karine Ponties / Dame de Pic & Balet Moskva

Every Direction Is North

On stage seven dancers push and shove each other, twirl around each other. Non stop, alternating group movements with solos they go from one figure to another like tireless children busy playing. They invite us to experience their unbridled quest for harmony through a physical game of corporeal construction.

Franco-Belgian choreographer Karine Ponties has collaborated numerous times with Russian dance companies over the past ten years. In 2016 with the contemporary cast of the Theatre "Ballet Moscow", she first worked on a piece in which the bodies are pushed to their physical limits. Her “North” is a place without havens, in the middle of nowhere, represented by white boxes and modular wooden structures that turn into tables or wardrobes. If all roads lead here, each of the dancers try, by leaning on the others, to turn away and find a place in which to be free.
